It’s important to take the time properly install your baby car seat so that your child may travel safely and comfortably in the car seat. It should go without saying, that your child should use a car seat for every single journey. No matter how short a car trip your child should be securely seated in the car seat. Each and every time you situate your child in the car seat be sure to do the following.
Take time to get the child comfortably strapped into the car seat
Make sure the car seat's harness (if it has one) is correctly adjusted for your child. The car seat should be quite tight, so that only one or two fingers can fit between the child's chest and harness on the car seat.
Clothing can affect how snugly the car seat harness fits, so check the car seat harness every journey.
The car seat harness buckle should not rest over the child's tummy while the child’s in the car seat
Stroller
There are so many different types of strollers to choose from. There is a plethora of strollers on the market. In order to make an informed decision when purchasing a stroller one of the first things you need to do is determine is your budget for buying the best stroller for you. There are strollers that can cost as little as $10.00 per stroller or as much as $400 and up per stroller. The lower end strollers are generally the very light weight umbrella strollers. The advantage to these strollers is they fold nicely and can store almost anywhere. As the price of strollers gets higher the features and quality of the stroller may increase.
Strollers can come with a variety of features. What is important to you about the variety of stroller features? Do you want a convertible travel system stroller or a stroller that is just that and a car seat? There are stroller travel systems that include a stay in the car base, an infant carrier/car safety seat, and a stroller frame for the infant seat which it is attached. The kinds of strollers are great especially when your baby is newly born.

Baby's Health
Parents-to-be often ask in antenatal classes how they will monitor their baby’s health. In practice, you gradually get to know your baby’s personality and their pattern of sleeping, waking and feeding. This will aid in your understanding of your baby’s health allowing you to be able to tell if something is unusual.
If you do feel that things are not quite right with your baby’s health, don’t hesitate to consult your midwife or doctor. Nothing is more important than your baby’s health. It can be a good idea to make a note of everything you want to say regarding your baby’s health before you make the phone call to your doctor or health care provider.
Keep all important baby’s health telephone numbers on hand: a doctor’s surgery; hospital A&E department; a reliable taxi firm; and the number of a neighbor who can look after any other children in an emergency.
If you are asked to bring your baby to a health centre out of hours, you may worry that a late-night journey will make your baby’s health even worse. However, it’s probably better that they are given a health examinaion somewhere that is fully equipped for treatment than at home.
Baby Safety
The baby safety equipment you need depends on the individual baby safety characteristics of your child and your home. For purposes of this discussion, let's assume you'll be supervising your baby constantly — something most parents, even those whose children have had serious accidents in the home, claim they do to ensure safety. My reason for raising this baby safety issue is to make two points: 1) There is no substitute for supervision to ensure baby safety and 2) even if you pay constant attention, you must take steps to create a baby safety environment for your child.
For virtually every piece of baby safety equipment available, there is a commonsense, practical alternative to provide safety for your child. Unfortunately, these safety alternatives may not always be feasible, which is why baby safety equipment and devices were invented in the first place. For example, if you can remove every last choking hazard, poison, sharp latches for safety’s sake. Similarly, if you can remove or relocate all furniture with extended or hard edges, or that is climbable or prone to tip in an earthquake, then you may be able to live without edge cushions and furniture braces.
Suffice it to say there's no hard and fast "must have" and "may avoid" list of baby safety equipment. But by one means or another you still need provide baby safety to protect your child against falls, poisoning, suffocation, choking, and electrical hazards in and around your home. Make time to read up on child safety and take practical steps to make your home a safety place for your child.
Baby Clothing
When expecting you are sure to receive many sweet baby clothing garments that will make you ooh and coo. So preparing the baby clothing closet for your baby will be a fun organizational task. Here are some tips for setting up the baby clothing closet in your baby’s nursery. In general, you want soft, comfortable baby clothing with no irritating tags or seams. You'll be changing your baby's baby clothing several times a day — babies are messy — so make sure the baby’s baby clothing is uncomplicated and open easily for diaper changes.
Babies outgrow newborn sized baby clothing quickly, so buy big baby clothing — at least three months ahead. But do choose one or two newborn baby clothing items you love just for the psychic lift of dressing your new baby in baby clothing you consider adorable. While we've included rough guidelines on the quantity of baby clothing you should stock in your closet, the amount of baby clothing you need will depend on your own preferences and how often you plan to do laundry.
Baby Books
Make sharing baby books something your child wants to do often. Children learn best when they enjoy what they are doing, this applies to reading baby books as well!
To help make sharing baby books an enjoyable experience:
Choose a time to read baby books when both you and your child are relaxed and happy.
Notice what your child looks at in the baby books, and then talk about those features in the baby books.
Stop for a while if your child loses interest or gets upset in the baby books
It is natural for babies to play with baby books, even tear the baby books or chew on the baby books.
When you read baby books, make your child feel loved and special for being a good listener with the baby books.
Share baby books with your child everyday, even a few minutes of reading baby books are important.
Begin reading baby books to your child early. Even newborns enjoy hearing parents and caregivers read baby books.
Choose board or cloth baby books and allow your baby to explore by chewing and playing with the baby books
Let your child see you reading baby books. It is especially important for a child to see his or her father read baby books!
Visit your public library often and check a couple of baby books every week.
Baby Toy
Toddlers are spirited folk, so look for baby toys and activities that give yours a way to channel his energy. Also look for baby toys that challenge his developing mind. baby toys are a sure fire way to stimulate and invigorate your child’s mind for learning.
Ride-on baby toys: Your child will still love wheeled baby toys he can push himself along on such baby toys as tricycles and wagons — pedaling is probably more than he can handle. Look for ride-on baby toys that are well balanced. Ride on baby toys with cargo holds that allow your child to pack and unpack for his trips are a nice feature.
Balls baby toys: Balls continue to be a favorite toy, but even more so now that your toddler can target his throws. A few kids this age even make the occasional catch. Set up a couple of wastebaskets as "hoops" and the two of you can have a rousing game of basketball with these baby toys. Or establish two goal lines and introduce your child to a drastically simplified version of soccer. This is a great way to use simple baby toys create lots of fun for your child.
Art supply baby toys: Invite your child to be creative with artistic baby toys. Set up an area in your home where it's okay for him to be messy with baby toys crayons, paint and markers. You can prompt his artistry by asking your toddler to draw certain things with his artistic baby toys: the sky, or grass, or even what the sound of rain looks like. When you're feeling brave — or maybe the word is energetic — bring out tempera paint and some broad brush baby toys and watch how these additions charge up the creative process.
Baby Bedding
What's the best method for bathing my baby?
Here's how to do bathing and what you'll need to make bathing easy. With any luck, bathing him will become one of the most enjoyable parts of your days together:
Assemble all necessary bath accessories for bathing.
Fill the bath with 2 to 3 inches /5 to 7.5 centimetres of water that feels warm but not hot, about 90 degrees F (32 degrees C) while bathing.
Prior to bathing bring your baby to the bath area and undress him completely.
Gradually slip your baby into the bath, using one hand to support his neck and head. Pour cupfuls of bath water over him regularly during the bath so he doesn't get too cold during bathing.
Use soap sparingly while bathing (it dries your baby's skin) as you wash him with your hand or a flannel or sponge from top to bottom, front to back. Wash his scalp with a wet, soapy cloth. Use moistened cotton wool to clean his eyes and face. As for bathing your baby's genitals, a routine wash is all that is needed. If dried mucus has collected in the corner of your baby's nostrils or eyes, dab it several times during bathing with a small section of a moistened cotton wool to soften it before you wipe it out.
Rinse your baby thoroughly with a clean flannel to complete bathing.
Wrap your baby in a towel and pat him dry. If his skin is dry after bathing, or if he has a bit of nappy rash after bathing, you may want to apply a mild lotion after bathing

Baby Feeding
It is a myth that bottle-feeding and breast-feeding are equally good. Mother’s milk is the best feeding method for proper growth of the child. When breast- feeding there are certain nutrients in the mother’s milk that helps the baby fight illnesses; while also promoting brain development. Comparing to babies who enjoy breast- feeding, to babies that enjoy formula feedings, the latter are more prone to illnesses.
Ideally you should start breast feeding the child within 2 hours of its birth, but do not worry if for some reason you are not able to begin breast feeding - many mothers feed their children after a few days because of some medical reasons and they turn out to be just fine. Apart from milk avoid feeding the child any water or pacifier because the child is still learning breast-feeding and things like the bottle nipple and pacifiers can confuse the baby while feeding because milk doesn’t flow as fast as it does through bottles, during feeding.
Always give the child enough time during breast feeding. Don’t limit the time of feeding. It could frustrate the baby while feeding. An average of about 10 to 45 minutes for feeding can be taken by the baby to completely satisfy itself.
